STOP CHILD ABUSE!

Assalamua'laikum and hi hi hi guys!!!!

Things have been crazy in the news lately about children who are being abused and even killed. Humans are scary. Much more than a wild beast sometimes. The family institution is crumbling bit by bit and in the end, we are left with a gruesome result. Isn't it funny. How some people want a children of their own so bad but couldn't have one. While some others have a child, but they failed to run the responsibilities as a mother or father. I read a case where the neighbors keep hearing the sound of a child crying in the middle of the night and thought that it is just a normal child having tantrum or maybe a nightmare. Little do they know that it is actually the sound of a child crying for help. Then there was a story of a neighbor who found his/her neighbor 2 children locked inside the house for days.
What is the value of a life now? People already care less about the elders. But now it has gone to another level where a child's life has so little value and meaning. I just want to say something here. A CHILD IS NOT A PUNCHING BAG!!!! If you can't take care of it, there are plenty of others who will take that child.



I'm so grateful that I was born in the family that I now still have. I can't imagine growing up being abused. Abuse can also be a chain of events. A person who have a history of being abused is more likely to abuse another, make it their spouse or their child. This is just my thought but I think that we must have more awareness on anger management, stress, and most importantly more information on childcare and family affairs. Knowing is the first step. Neighbors must be more interactive with each other. We are not living alone on earth. Knowing who to trust and who to get help from might be helpful in the long run. Even Rasulullah SAW said that we must love and be kind to our neighbors. Be more aware!!

An article by Stephanie Liew, written on November 2009 state that "The number of child abuse cases is on the rise from 2,279 reported in 2007 to 2,780 cases reported last year. Statistics provided by Social Welfare Department shows that up to 819 cases were reported for the first four months this year in which seven cases are reported daily. ". Let me state again, reported. So the unreported values may sum up to be....???

Here's the current statistics in malay mail released on November 2009.



"From the numbers made available to Malay Mail, girls make up the bulk of abused children (see accompanying story). Over 19 months till July, the department took in as many as 1,033 sexually abused girls. From these,
689 girls were sexually abused by a parent or guardian or a member of the extended family. Worse still, the remaining 344 were sexually abused — but their parents or guardians did nothing to stop it."


Abuse can be split into 3 main types which are :

* Physical abuse such as slapping, shaking, beating with fist or object, strangulation, burning, kicking and threats with a knife.
* Sexual abuse such as coerced sex through threats or intimidation or through physical force, forcing unwanted sexual acts, forcing sex in front of others and forcing sex with others.
* Psychological abuse which include isolation from others, verbal aggression, threats of violence and constant belittling and humiliation.



A report done by unicef presented three key findings:

1. There is a common link between domestic violence and child abuse. Among victims of child abuse, 40 per cent report domestic violence in the home.
2. Children’s physical, emotional and social development is threatened when they are exposed to violence. Amongst others, violence harms the development of a child’s brains and later in life puts them at a greater risk for substance abuse, juvenile pregnancy and criminal behaviour than those raised in homes without violence.
3. Children who grow up with violence in the home learn early about the use of violence in interpersonal relationships to dominate others.

Let us be more aware of this issue and make sure that we are well equip with the needed parenting skills and information before embracing our own child into the world.



Ps : Fyp presentation finished!!! Now preparing for my finals. And then I'll have 1 more sem to go. time fly by fast. Most of my frens will be finishing their studies this sem. A bit jealous looking at their excitement. Some have been planning for a gateway after study. But I won't feel bad for myself. Each of us have the choice to go at things at our own pace. In the end, we'll all still be reaching the same destination. So there's not reason to be sad. Anyway, i'm praying the best for them. Ganbatteyo!

I'm gonna be having a big event soon. Lolz. i won't tell it here. hahaha. but hopefully it'll go smoothly. I'm kind of excited for that as well. So i'm praying for Allah's help and blessings.
