Suicide?

Is it a serious case?
No? Well, for those who says no, these numbers might shock you.

  • In the 90 countries (areas) studied, suicide was the fourth leading cause of death among young males and the third for young females.
  • The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there are one million suicides each year, representing 1.4 per cent of the total global burden of disease.
  • According to WHO suicide rates statistics, one person commits suicide every 40 seconds.
  • In Malaysia, 13 Malaysians per 100,000 either committed or attempted to commit suicide annually, compared to just eight on the 1980s. (2006)
  • Health Minister Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek has said that in five to 10 years, suicides would be the country’s second biggest cause of death after cardiovascular disease. (2006)
