Brain activity stimulated

Assalamua'laikum everyone!!! こんにちは。

I suddenly got interested in the human brain. I think i have some short term memory loss. If you ask those who are close with me, then you'll know what I mean. I'm so bad with numbers, dates, etc. So now I'm focusing on things that I could catch on faster. Words! I guess that's why I'm interested in languages so much. Our body is extraordinary and impossible to replicate in so many ways. わたしののうはおもしろいですね。

Scientifically, if there's no brain activity, then the person is officially dead. Average adult's brain weight around 1.5kg. Men's brain are on average 100g heavier than a woman's. It is estimated that our brain have 50-100 billion neurons. There are as many as 1000 trillion synaptic connections.

Anyone every heard that we only use 10% or less of our brain? Well, it turns out that this isn't true. The statement doesn't have any scientific basis to support it. Many functional brain imaging studies shows that the activated regions encompassing well over 10% of the brain.

How to improve our brain?

1. The right food.

Breakfast is actually very important. And usually people will skip it. People who skip breakfast have higher probability to gain weight. Studies also show that skipping breakfast reduce people's performance at work and school. (Note - Snacks and soft drinks don't count as breakfast)

Food for the brain:
i) Fatty Acids - Used to create specialized cells. Allowing us to think and feel.
ii) Amino Acids - Amino acids from protein make the neurotransmitter. Allowing brain cells to communicate and create a network.
iii) Glucose - Glucose from carbohydrates is like brain fuel. It produces evergy that moves and motivates us.
iv) Micro-nutrients - From fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants to safeguard our cells from damage and dysfunction.

2.Mozart Effect

Well, good news to those who like classical. Research by Frances Rauscher, a psychologist and her colleagues found that listening to Mozart pieces improve people's mathematical and spatial reasoning. ( Although I don't think I'll start being a Mozart fans since Classical music could send me to Lala land before I can finish counting to 10).

Another option is listening to stories. It gives the same effect. (Much better option esp for me)

Sleep

"If you have been awake for 21 hours straight, your abilities are equivalent to someone who is legally drunk," says Sean Drummond from the University of California, San Diego. Our brain don't sleep. During our rest, they processes new memories, practises and hones new skills - and even solves problems.

Start walking more

Exercising promotes growth of new cells. Previously, they say that brain cells died as we grow older, and no new cells is produced. However, in 2000, Fred Gage from the Salk Institute in La Jolla found that adults also grow new brain cells. (I try to think of a way to preserve my brain cells before. Thank god our brain can grow new ones. @_@)

Stay close to God

I'm not so sure about other religion, but muslims makes Islam as their lifestyle do promote to a healthier brain. A research shows that people who don;t drink or smoke, spiritual and calm, and eat healthily in moderation results to a healthier mind in a long run. It could prevent dementia and senility when we are older. So, just do as our religion told us to for now and ask questions later as it gives us more benefits than we have yet discovered.

Positive feedback

I usually felt that there is too much to memorize like a month before the exams. But amazingly, I got to memorize most of them before the exam. So, we could actually maximize our brain usage if we believe we can. (Does hypnotizing works in this case? Lolz. It'll be fun if we could be hypnotized and suddenly become Einstein. ^_^)

Ps: Passion can drive a man to great heights. Anyone agree with this one? Well, I do. There's nothing better than doing the things we loved. At some point of our lives,we still have to face the things we don't like. Just think of it as a little tour before reaching the goal. When we found a river that crosses our path, we still have to cross it somehow. When we reach the destination, all the hard work will make it all worthwhile.
